Jackie Richardson

Play Therapist and Systemic Practitioner

My name is Jackie and I have spent many years providing therapeutic interventions for adults and children. Since 2016 I have worked in the NHS in Child and Adolescent Mental Health with children and families who have experienced some very difficult life events including fostered and adopted children. Previously to this, I have worked in schools and in private practice.

I love working with families, especially children and young people as the kind of therapy I offer can make such a difference! I am a Play Therapist which means I play with children to enable them to express and make sense of their experiences and emotions via a medium that is natural for them.

I also offer Systemic Family Therapy where sometimes some, or all of the family are needing someone like me to facilitate talking to each other in a safe way. Sometimes it’s easier to talk to a stranger than those we love, and systemic therapy enables families to start to understand each other differently, open up communication and perhaps then feel differently about their relationships with each other (hopefully for the better!)

Professional Background

I hold a Diploma in Play and Creative Arts Therapy, as well as an Intermediate Level Certificate in Systemic Practice. I have trained in a therapy known as Mentalization which draws on various therapy models including play therapy and systemic therapy. In 2007 I completed training in Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and Integrative Counselling providing a firm foundation for my other therapies.

Things I love

I love my job! I also adore my black Labrador dog who is called Max – he such a character and loves swimming! I enjoy yoga and walking, as well as climbing outdoors and just generally being in nature. My friends and family are very important to me and I love socialising and spending time with like-minded people.
